PA Woman Dies After Water Rescue: Police (Update)

A 77-year-old woman died after being rescued from the Schuylkill River in Montgomery County on Tuesday, Nov. 19, according to police.

Officers and firefighters responded to a 911 call about a car in the water at 601 Righter's Ferry Road in Bala Cynwyd at 9:08 a.m., the Lower Merion Township Police Department told Daily Voice.

The vehicle the woman was in rolled down a hill from a gym parking lot in the area, a 6abc Action News report states.

She was pulled from the vehicle by two Lower Merion Township police officers and a Union Fire Company firefighter who were the first to arrive, police said. 

The woman was taken to Lankenau Hospital in critical condition but passed away later the same day, police said in a separate news release. Her name has not been released.

The police officers and firefighter were taken to the same hospital and were later released, the news release states.

No other information is being provided at this time, including video footage of the rescue, as an investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing, according to the news release.
